Tips to Change a Car Tyre

change car tyre

Finding a flat tyre after a long and tiring day at work or before going out to a party can be annoying. Knowing the process for changing the tyre of your car is essential. You cannot always rely on a mobile device to rescue you from a roadside emergency. The process might seem challenging if you have not done it before. However, follow the steps in the following article and learn to change the tyre easily.

Step 1:

The first step for changing your car tyre is finding a flat and safe parking spot. When you realize your car has a flat tyre, you should focus primarily on getting off the road to prevent accidents. Park in an area away from traffic and people to change the tyre. Apply your parking brakes to stop the vehicle from moving. You can even add heavy bricks or rocks around the three remaining tyres for additional support.

Step 2:

The next step is to switch the emergency hazard lights on. If you change the tyre on the roadside, the lights will alert other vehicles.

Step 3:

After parking, collect the spare tyre from your car. Usually, the tyre is present at the bottom of your car’s trunk. Get the jack as well. Now, if you do not have a spare tyre, do not panic. You might possess a sealant kit for temporarily patching the flat. Otherwise, call a tow truck.

Step 4:

In this step, check whether your car tyre has a wheel cover. If it has a cover, remove it before proceeding with the further steps. Now use a flathead screwdriver to remove the hubcap and a tyre wrench to loosen the lug nuts. Turn them in a counterclockwise direction to loosen them enough so that you can spin them by hand.

Step 5:

It is time to fix the jack and lift your car. Get on the floor and look for the frame of your tyre. It is a thin metallic thing located behind the metal body of the car’s exterior. You must set the jack under the frame, next to the replacing tyre. Ensure that the jack is in the right place; if it isn’t, reposition it.

Step 6:

Once the jack is in its position, turn it in a clockwise direction to raise the platform up. Raise the tyre at least 10 to 15 cm off the floor. If it is your first time changing the tyre, you might feel that your jack will break or your car will fall. However, no need to worry because no such thing will happen.

Step 7:

Remove the already loose lug nuts by hand. Keep them in a safe place to avoid losing them. Use the tyre iron, pull out the busted wheel, and set it aside. Next, bring the spare tyre and place it on the axle of the vehicle. Ensure that the valve stem of the tyre faces out since it will prove that the spare wheel is positioned correctly.

Step 8:

Place the lug nuts on the spare tyre in such a way that their openings face you. Use your hand to lock them in their position temporarily. Use the screwdriver later to tighten them in their position. Turn the jack in the opposite direction and lower the vehicle until the tyre touches the ground.

Step 9:

Now, the screwdriver can tighten the lug nuts. Continue to tighten them three to four times in a star pattern to ensure that each is as tight as possible. After double-checking the nuts, place the jack and the busted tyre in your trunk. Place the wheel cover back, and you are good to go.

Step 10:

This last step is not vital, but you can do it with the right tools. Get a tyre pressure gauge and check the inflation of the spare tyre. If it is not appropriately inflated, pump the tyre according to its recommended pressure.
